New tab shows a black screen, blank page, or loading indicator that never finishes.

Extension Error Message

Chrome shows an error message like "Extension not found" or "Failed to load extension".

Partial Loading

Some elements appear but others are missing (no weather, no background image, etc.).

Step-by-Step Solutions

1
Check Extension Status

First, verify that Chromentum is properly installed and enabled:

  1. a.
Type chrome://extensions/ in your address bar and press Enter
  2. b.
Look for "Chromentum" in the list of extensions
  3. c.
Make sure the toggle switch is ON (blue)
  4. d.
Check that it says "No errors" under the extension name

If Chromentum is not in the list: You need to reinstall it from the Chrome Web Store.

2
Clear Browser Cache & Data

Corrupted cache can prevent extensions from loading properly:

Method 1: Quick Clear

  1. 1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Delete (Mac)
  2. 2. Select "All time" as time range
  3. 3. Check "Cached images and files"
  4. 4. Click "Clear data"
  5. 5. Restart Chrome

Method 2: Extension Data

  1. 1. Go to chrome://extensions/
  2. 2. Find Chromentum and click "Details"
  3. 3. Scroll down to "Extension options"
  4. 4. Click "Clear storage and reset"
  5. 5. Refresh your new tab

3
Disable Conflicting Extensions

Other new tab extensions can conflict with Chromentum:

Common Conflicting Extensions:

  • • Momentum
  • • Infinity New Tab
  • • Speed Dial 2
  • • Any other "New Tab" extensions

Temporarily disable these extensions, then test if Chromentum works. You can re-enable them later if they don't conflict.

4
Check Chrome Version & Update

Chromentum requires Chrome version 88 or newer:

  1. 1. Click the three dots menu (⋮) in Chrome
  2. 2. Go to Help → About Google Chrome
  3. 3. Chrome will check for updates automatically
  4. 4. Restart Chrome if an update was installed
  5. 5. Try opening a new tab again

5
Reinstall Chromentum

If nothing else works, a clean reinstall usually solves the problem:

  1. 1. Go to chrome://extensions/
  2. 2. Find Chromentum and click "Remove"
  3. 3. Restart Chrome completely
  4. 4. Visit the Chrome Web Store
  5. 5. Click "Add to Chrome" to reinstall
  6. 6. Open a new tab to test

Note: You'll need to reconfigure your settings after reinstalling, but your premium subscription will remain active.
